A High Desert Publication

Formations is a self-published bi-annual magazine. The publication will focus on the vast landscape of the American desert, from California to Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Both a celebration of the fertile history of this region and the new culture of artists and visionaries calling the desert home, Formations will include photography, architecture, literature, art and design.

Letter from the Founder & Designer

I moved to the high desert of California part-time in the spring of 2019. I was escaping Los Angeles on the weekends, both because I loved the desert landscape, and for the practical reason that it was affordable. During the pandemic I gave up my apartment in the city and moved to the desert full-time. I had intended to retire out here, but found I felt more at home in the sun, sand and solitude. The idea of waiting became unfathomable. I continued to drive into Los Angeles weekly to work as an Art Director, but with the pull of the desert growing stronger, I decided to create this new chapter in the Spring of 2025. Inspired by Randall Henderson of Desert Magazine & Westernlore Press, I made the decision to change direction and self-publish Formations twice yearly. The publication will focus on the vast landscape of the American desert, from California to Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Both a celebration of the fertile history of this region and the new culture of artists and visionaries calling the desert home, Formations will include photography, architecture, literature, art and design.
